‘The fishermen are the complete opposite of Jonas: they’re not interested in the beauty of the world around them, all they want to do is consume it.’

‘I first got the idea for their characters when I was doing research for the film in Vlieland and was amazed by the crowds of people shovelling fried fish into their mouth and staring at the sea without taking in what they were seeing or even talking to the people around them.’

‘In the film, the fishermen are completely set in their ways, have no imagination and see everything in black and white. That’s why they all look, move and dress the same. They simply don’t understand someone like Jonas who dares to think differently.’
